Bhartiya Khel: Reclaiming India's Athletic Identity

India has a sports heritage stretching back thousands of years. From the wrestling traditions of the Mahabharata to the tactical brilliance of Chaturanga (the precursor to chess), from the acrobatic feats of Mallakhamb to the lightning speed of Kho-Kho, India's ancient games are not just pastimes. They are expressions of culture, philosophy, and physical excellence. The SportStar is committed to keeping these games alive, putting them back into communities, schools, and competition arenas where they belong.

Games We Promote

  • Kabaddi: The sport of warriors, now a global game. We run Kabaddi development programs at the community level across India.

  • Mallakhamb: A traditional gymnastics discipline on a wooden pole or rope. A test of strength, flexibility, and precision.
  • Gilli-Danda: : One of the fastest team games in the world. We organise structured Kho-Kho competitions across age groups.
  • Atya-Patya: : A fast-paced game of agility and strategy from Maharashtra.
  • Chaturanga: The ancient Indian board game that gave the world chess, promoted as a sport of the mind.
  • Lagori (Seven Stones):A team coordination game that has been played across generations of Indian children.

Why Bhartiya Khel Matters

These games are affordable, require minimal equipment, and can be played anywhere. They build teamwork, physical strength, and cognitive sharpness. More importantly, they connect players to their cultural roots and remind India of the sporting genius that has existed here for centuries.

Traditional Indian games are being reintroduced into schools under national education policy. The SportStar supports this by training coaches, organising tournaments, and building competitive pathways for these sports.
